It was no surpise when the formal announcement was made that Maguire was out injured for the start of the saeson. Rumour had been circulating since he was replaced on Saturday that the striker would be out for several months.
The club confirmed the Irishman will miss the first eight weeks of the season. The concerning point is that since his signing last summer he has suffered continual hamstring problems with a prolonged period out at the end of 2017 and start of 2018.
The bigger surprise was that Billy Bodin will be out for six months after suffering knee ligament damage in training. The wide attacker had been impressive in pre-season and will be severely missed as it was expected he would push on after signing in January.
