The rumour mill is now in full circle. The bookies and fans favourite Paul Jewell has spoken to the press hinting that he would be open to talks with Preston over the vacant position. Jewell would not rule a move to Preston out but it appears the Chairman already has. Derek Shaw showing his limitless ambition to move the club forward by not even attempting to attract the best manager on the market by judging he is out of our price range. One call to find out how much wonga he wants won't harm anyone, will it Dirk? Although with the price of mobile bills these days Mr Shaw will be looking for a sharp response.
The second favourite is ex-Burnley boss Steve Coterill at 5/1 with the bookies he has this week come out and said what a superb club Preston are. Seems a bit strange to me having just left our arch rivals. Looks like a bit more sucking up maybe required.
Both Paul Ince and Simon Davey have ruled themselves out of the running leaving lower league managers the target once again of Derek Shaw. What happened the last time we appointed a lower league manager?
Other options closer to home are the usual, let's play it safe by appointing the assistant leaving Rob Kelly time to go for the job or maybe a bit more controversial but Blackpool's Simon Grayson has been linked in the Blackpool press with a move although that seems a bit pie in the sky.
The new boss is set to be in charge for the next game against Charlton and for some reason I get the impression that it will be someone has never taken anyone remotely close to the top six of this division.
