This was a relegation six pointer in front of the Sky cameras. Hull were struggling for form away from home and Preston were trying to find some normailty in what has beenn a bizarre season.
Fergie who is slowly losing the plot went for a 4-3-3 formation after we all know Preston are unable to defend. Parry played justs off Parkin and Hume whilst St Ledger filled in for the ill Jones at right back with Brown starting in the centre.
Preston were poor in the first half - a pretty standard definition for this season. Hull could have been three up by half time. The goal came from Garcia who headed home a cross - the winger was allowed 50 yards of space as Davidson had roamed up field. Presumably Ferguson hadn't told the full backs that 4-3-3 meant there would be no wingers in front to help them out.
Hull missed two more gilt edged chances with Lonergan making a good save with one and the other was a shot screwed wide,
Davidson then appeared for the second half only to run immediately back down the tunnel to be replaced by debutant McLoughlin with St Ledger switched to left back. The crown got behind the side and Preston pushed forward. Hume came closest with a rasping shotwhich the keeper turned onto the post.
Unfortunately, poor defending from St Ledger allowed a cross from the right giving Barmby a tap in. Hull then hit the post in injury time.
Preston lacked fight in the first half and were chasing the game in the second but couldn't find the breakthrough which might have given them a chance in this game.
