Due to the ever increasing speculation that David Nugent will be leaving for the Premiership, Simpson has been eyeing up the lower leagues for a goal scoring replacement.
The new name being linked with Deepdale is Billy Sharp of Scunthorpe. Sharp is a goal scoring centre forward who has helped the League One side into the automatic places this season. His record is impeccable scoring in more than one in every two games.
Sharp failed to make the grade at Sheffield United but after spending a prolific loan period on loan at Rushden and Diamonds he was snapped up by Scunthorpe where he has banged in the goals.
The fee being rumoured is about £1 million which many think Scunthorpe will have to accept to help financial stability.
