Robinson was in Ireland linking up with the Preston pre-season plans after an extended break due to international matches over the summer. He was allowed to leave the training camp once Preston had agreed a fee with Sheffield United.
It is believed from reports that the sale is somewhere in the region of £7 - 8m depending on who you believe. Aston Villa have a sell on clause so part of the money will go to the newly promoted club.
The move away has been on the cards for a while with Bournemouth linked last season and more latterly Norwich and Sheffield United. Preston always seemed destiend to cash in given Ribinson was in his last 12 months of his contract and no new deal had been signed.
The sale will ultimately mean that Neil has some cash available to buy players. He will not necessairly replace Robinson with a like for like replacement given Preston have an abundance of wide options but Preston are in desperate need of experience in key positions.
The next few weeks will prove critical for Neil and will determine which direction Preston are heading in next year. If recruitment goes well then North End may spring up the table but if it goes badly then another tough season awaits.
