Rumours broke over the weekend that Rangers were making a move for the striker and yesterday Preston confirmed a bid had been made but neither accepted or rejected.
The official line was that they didn't want to sell Garner and they would put the move to him. If Garner fancies the move then it was clear that Preston would accept the bid.
Reading between the lines, Preston knew that it would be controversial to sell a favourite of the fans but clearly the money was right for a deal wo be done and the funds have to be used for investment.
Reports suggest that Rangers will pay £750,000 up front with a furtehr £750,000 next summer which could rise to £1.7m in total depending on appearances. The sum was too good to turn down for a striker who has failed to impress at Championship level.
If the deal goes through then Preston have two weeks before the end of the transfer deadline to invest the funds. After bidding for Donald Love last week it appears that Preston have a little cash to burn at the moment to improve the squad.
