Tommy Spurr was involved in Alex Neil's plans at the start of last season but then after injury he was unable to regain a place in the matchday squad. There had still been no hint of him leaving the club until recent reports surfaced.
The defender can play at left back and centre back. He was mainly used as cover last season but was an experienced player. Preston have been willing to offload players but Spurr's name never cropped up on any list.
Sunderland appear to be favourites to sign the defender and for the right price Preston would probably allow a fringe player to leave in order to free up the wage bill for an incoming player.
Oldham have also been linked with a move for the defender so it is clear that Spurr will be playing at a lower level next season wherever he chooses to play.
