Preston celebrated seven years of unbeaten Tuesday nights at Deepdale as Birmingham in February, 2001 were the last side to claim all three points at Deepdale.
Stoke came as league leaders and went away empty handed. The biggest side in the league who are famed for their set pieces were undone by two set pieces themselves as they failed to come to terms with the early defecit.
A Mckenna free kick whirled in was flicked on by Brown. The ball looked to be heading into the net but Chaplow made sure with a tap in to score his first goal for the club.
Preston then had another free kick which surprised everyone as the ball was played wide to Chaplow who sot low from twenty five yards out to double the lead.
Stoke had chances to get back into the game with Fuller missing a gilt edged chance before the break and then forcing a good save from Lonergan in the second period. He also showed his moody side when on various occassions the referre failed to bow to his demands of awarding penalties because the Jamaican at every opportunity hit the deck without being challenged.
Stoke pressed with the long throw ins but Preston defended well. The visiting support showed their frustration towards the referee but if they had been more clinical int heir finishing they may have got something out of the game.
Chaplow could have made the game safe when it was harder to miss than score but the ball drifted wide. Preston then played on the break late on as they held on for an improtant victory with only a serious injury to the Stoke centre half taking the gloss off a good match.
