Simon Grayson is short on strikers and changed his formation after Preston were opened up at home to Hudersfield last week. Johnson and Browne partnered Gallagher in midfield with Reach playing off Garner.
Wolves were above Preston in the table before the game but on the two games the sides have played this season the West Midlands club have been distinctly average and rarely threaetned on Saturday.
Preston had much of the early play passing the ball around neatly. The deadlock was broken when Garner played a ball through to Gallagher. He chipped the oncoming keeper to give Preston the lead.
The one attempt from thehome side of note was a free kick from around twenty five yards out. It was curled around the wall and hit the outside of the post before falling to safety.
North End doubled their advantage shortly after the break. Woods put in a cross from the right and the keeper could only palm the ball out to Reach who fired home from close range.
Wolves were let back in the game when subsitute Mason was played through. Clarke should have cut out the ball but Mason managed to round the keeper and slot home.
The home side rarely threatened in the last twenty minutes and Preston played the game out comfortably. North End leapfrogged Wolves and now sit in eleventh place close to achieving safety for the season and nine points off the play off teams.
Preston now face a tough game at home to Sheffield Wednesday who presently sit in fifth but the Whites do not fear anyone in the Championship anymore and have a setup that works well.
