The visitors probably had the best of the first twenty minutes as Iversen was forced into two saves. The keeper tipped over a long range effort and blocked a shot from inside the box but barring this he was relatively untroubled.
Preston scored with virtually their first attack of the game. Evans played Sinclair through on goal. He managed to get a shot on goal as he was chased down but his effort was blocked. The rebound fell to Potts who played the ball back to goal. Despite a defender on the line the ball squeezed into the net to give Preston a first half lead.
In the second half Preston seemed the team more likely to score and they doubled their lead when Potts squared the ball in the box which Evans ran onto. The shot took a slight deflection before going into the net but Evans will be credited with the goal.
North End added a third when Evans played through substitute Barkhuizen on the break. He sprinted forward and with the outside of his right foot played a ball across the box to Sinclair who fired home.
Iversen kept the visitors out late on as he maintained a clean sheet for the second game in a row. Preston deserved the win against a visiting side who were struggling.
North End now need to find some consistency between now and the end of the season to push up the table as far as they can along with getting some confidence back in the side.
