The South Yorkshire club brought a huge following filling out the away end but had little to sing about as Preston took all three points in a contrasting performance to the away game at Hillsborough earlier in the season.
Glaring mistakes cost Preston in Sheffield but on Saturday they worked as a team to take points of another side who are placed in the top six. Wednesday had no answer and no shots troubling the Preston keeper.
The visitors probably had their best spell in the first fifteen minutes before Preston grew into the match. Graner shot across goal when he should have done better before Reach flashed a long range right footed effort wide.
Clarke was put through but hit his right footed shot wide. If it had been an attacking player then Preston might have taken the lead but they were certainly on top going into the break.
Wednesday were reduced to ten men men in the second half when Forestieri was sent off for two yellow cards. He was intent on deceiving the referee all afternoon.
In the first half the referee was lenient. Forestieri played a ball to a colleague and then blatantly ran into a Preston player instead of going for the ball back to him. The referee soon realised and when he did the same again the Wednesday player was booked.
The second bookign was extraordinary as a ball was played into the box. Forestieri threw himself like superman. His hand flew through the air making contact with the ball and the referee's job simple.
Preston took several minutes to work out how to break down the ten men but once again it was from a cross from Woods. This time Garner rose highest to head home and give Preston the victory.
North End now face struggling Charlton on Tuesday evening before travelling to Cardiff at the weekend.
