North End are a young side and are still learning. One lesson to take from yesterday is that whilst there's not much between top and bottom in this division you have to take your chances when on top.
Whether it was by design or default Preston enjoyed the majority of the possession in the first half. A lot of the play was in the middle third but Preston did create the odd chance.
The main opportunity came from a mistake when Hugill forced the defence into an error which allowed Barkhuizen to come down the right. His low cross was met by Johnson who should have scored.
Despite having the majority of the play it was the hosts who took the lead before the break. When you're top of the league things fall into place and Preston seemed to present Wolves with an opportunity on the counter.
Wolves were allowed to break down the right. Earl lunged in trying to win the ball unsuccessfully allowing the attack to continue. The ball entered the box and there were opportunities to clear before it ended at the feet of Cavaleiro who sided footed home.
It was harsh on Preston who had been the better side. The referee didn't help with the foreign influence of the home side meaning players going down at every touch. Wolves don't like physicality.
The home side furthered their lead early in the second half. Harrop was caught out of position and the referee alleged that he brought down his man in the box. After the game it seemed the decision may have been a touch harsh.
Bonatini converted from the spot and it seemed Preston were beating themselves. Shortly after the home side added a third when Maxwell saved only for the fortunate rebound to fall to Bonatini who scored from close range.
At that point Preston could have imploded. They didn't and showed character. As stated, Wolves are no different tot he majority of teams in this division and Preston mounted a comeback.
Mavididi came on and impacted the game. Hugill got the first as he was left to head in all alone. Barkhuizen then raided down the right to shoot across goal which was deflected in off Coady.
Preston then threw caution to the wind with Huntington going up front. There were chances but the visitors could not convert including a blocked shot from the captain.
Just before the end Browne was shown a second yellow for pulling back his man was the home side broke. The referee lost some control as a number of players came together.
It's uncertain as to how he only showed yellow cards when it appeaed that some home players were going beyond the law in terms of what is acceptable for phsyical contact yet were quite happy to go to the floor at the slight touch of a tackle.
Preston move on and will learn from this game as a young side. They drop out of the top six and there is concern over the way goals are now being leaked.
North End face two home games where they must pick up points to regain some momentum.
