Van den Berg was part of an influx of players in January after several players exited the club including long term serving defender Ben Davies who joined Liverpool.
Preston needed defenders and Van den Berg was a youngster who fitted the bill. He arrived as a central defender but towards the end of the season he was given game time on the right of defence and the wing back position.
North End are still trying to recruit full time personnel to fill the gaps by those who left last season. Van den Berg hinted at a potential return at the end of last season.
The young defender performed well and no doubt will improve further with a full season in the Championship. It is a move that could benefit both parties with the youngster keen to play first tea football.
The signing will see Van den Berg at Preston for the season which will give Preston options at the back.
