Preston created very little throughout the game until the final twenty minutes when they were sparked into some form of life.
Ipswich took the lead through an Alan Lee header after 34 minutes after a cross into the box. Ipswich looked comfortable in their lead as Preston huffed and puffed to find their mid-week form.
Ipswich doubled their lead when Alan Lee set up ex-North End player Tommy Miller to finish past Lonergan despite the keeper getting a touch.
Agyemang and Mellor came on to try and change things up front and Preston were given a lifeline. Mellor broke into the box and the referee adjudged the Ipswich keeper to have pulled down the striker although some may say it was harsh. Preston's third penalty of the season was the first one to be converted as Mellor made the keeper go the wrong way.
Preston then tried to get an equaliser with five minutes of stoppage time but to no avail. Preston have only picked up one point on the road this season which is worrying and never looked like changing today against an Ipswich side who have a 100% home record.
