Sodje saves day for Preston

Preston substitute Akpo Sodje headed Preston's equaliser 15 minutes from the end to earn his side a 1-1 draw against 10-man Bournemouth, who had midfielder Harry Arter sent off.

Preston had trailed to a 52nd-minute header from Tommy Elphick, but produced a rousing finale with Sodje levelling the scores 10 minutes after stepping off the bench.

Elphick put his 15-month injury nightmare behind him by stealing in at the near post to glance in Marc Pugh's free kick to give the Cherries the lead.

Bournemouth played for over an hour with only 10 men after the industrious Arter was dismissed for being cautioned twice inside five first-half minutes.

Wes Thomas wasted two good chances for Bournemouth, while Preston lost the injury-prone Lee Holmes, who was carried off and taken to hospital with a badly-gashed left knee.

Preston bounced back well after falling behind - Sodje's influence being paramount. The substitute not only equalised, but almost brought the visitors victory in the closing stages.
