Billy Davies' outfit lost their discipline and had three players booked in the space of five minutes before straight reds were shown a few minutes later to Danny Dichio and Claude Davis.
Dichio was caught making contact with Morrison as tempers were raised after Chris Sedgwick blatantly and crudely pulled back Danny Butterfield. The contact was not vicious but technically the referee was correct.
Four minutes later Davis recklessly raised his studs into the back of Dougie Freedman and Preston were down to nine men with 20 minutes still left.
But with 30 seconds left it still looked as though they would pick up their fourth away win of the season but it was not to be as Morrison glanced home to cancel out Chris Lucketti's 43rd minute opener for Preston.
Preston did a good containing job in the first half giving Eagles little room to manoeuvre.
Although Michael Hughes and Morrison went close for Palace, Preston were coping well with the hosts' attacks. Sedgwick was giving Gary Borrowdale, the young Palace left-back, a hard time and sent over a couple of excellent crosses which forced Palace to desperately clear.
Sedgwick also missed a good chance when he fired over the bar and Paul McKenna did likewise from 25 yards out.
A minute before the interval Preston got their breakthrough after Gabor Kiraly failed to gather McKenna's deep corner. The Hungarian keeper claimed he was badly impeded as Lucketti placed a firm header into the centre of the goal.
Borrowdale tried desperately to clear but the assistant referee signalled the ball had dribbled over the line.
After the break, Palace lifted their game but still looked too predictable while Preston handled what was thrown at them reasonably well.
Still Morrison, Freedman and new boy Marco Reich all had good chances but Carlo Nash and co were up to it until five minutes into stoppage time.
Darren Ward was first to meet Danny Butterfield's corner with a powerful header and Morrison glanced the ball past Nash from close range for his third goal in four games.
