Preston knew that a point would be good enough to put them mathmatically clear of the chasing pack but they came away from the Walkers Stadium with all three.

North End made a dreadful start with Leicester kicking off and putting a neat move together. A lack of concentration allowed one time North end target Matt Fryatt to slot past Carlo Nash with only nine seconds on the board. The away team then spent the first twenty minutes on the back foot with Leicester pushin for the second.

Preston ventured further forward with Whaley creating a chance for himself as he looked the main threat. whaley then bagged a great goal from outside the box just before the break to stun the home side. Preston came out on top early in the second half and took full advantage with Jason Jarrett heading in his firts goal for the club after the ball was knocked on at a corner. The away side then controlled the game and with Leicester pushing for an equalliser North End should have killed the game off.

The biggest scare for the travelling fans was when Nash mis-punched a cross and the ball ended up six yards out at the feet of an attacker who promptly blasted over.

Preston are now secure in the knowledge that they will finish in the top six and remain in fifth place as they were the only side out of the top six to win today. Leeds and Palace were both held at home so North End move two points clear of Palace whilst remaining one behind both Watford and Leeds. Preston were some eight points behind third position only a few weeks ago but with only three games remaining they will be looking to bag their highest league finish since 1964 going into the play offs and gain some kind of advantage over the other contenders.
