Parkin Keeps Preston In The Hunt

Thanks to two average defensive units and a team of match officials who were at best useless, we were in for a very entertaining afternoon of football. both sides played an attacking style with the scorelinenot reflecting the number of opportunities falling to both sides.

Coventry took the lead early in the first half despite North End having much of the ball. Ediie Nolan at left back decided to leave his opposite number to roam as much as he wished down the right. Steven Wright with the freedom of the city crossed for Morrison to stab home. Morrison was in what looked like an offside position but to be fair to the linesman he got nothing right all afternoon.

Preston should have been level soon after with Wallace creating two great chances from the left. Elliott smashed one over the bar from six yards out and the other failed to find th eback of the net.

Preston were soon on level terms when Parkin was fouled. Wallace whipped in the free kick to the back post. St Ledger and Hunter both went for the ball with the latter heading past his own keeper.

Coventry then hit the post before the break and both sides looked for a winning goal. Coventry then seemed to undo all their hard work. A somewhat dubious free kick was given to them by their own corner flag. The keeper fluffed the kick out which landed at the feet of Wallace on the half way line. He played a first time ball to Parkin who may have been offside although as previous, the linesman didn't get anything right all afternoon.

Parkin ran in on goal, rounded the keeper and slotted home to seal a Preston victory which will keep them in the hunt if nothing else with an away game at Charlton coming up.
