Eoin Doyle rescues point with QPR to boost Preston's slim play-off hopesEoin Doyle scored a stoppage-time equaliser for Preston as they secured a 1-1 draw with QPR which keeps their slim chances of a play-off push alive.QPR went ahead in just the fifth minute when Alejandro Faurlin's corner from the right was on a plate for the onrushing Sebastian Polter, who had the simple task of thumping a header home from four yards.Preston threatened to hit back five minutes later when Callum Robinson broke down the left and delivered for Jordan Hugill, whose looped header from 12 yards landed just over the bar.The hosts dominated the ball after going behind and went close again on 16 minutes when a determined run into the area by Daniel Johnson led to his poke at goal being deflected just wide.Simon Grayson's side were dominating the ball but were missing the quality needed to create clear-cut chances and Adam Reach squandered one of their best opportunities when he scuffed a volley well wide following a corner in the 35th minute.Into the second half, Preston continued to push for an equaliser and had a chance when Ben Pearson's wonderful long-range pass picked out Hugill in the area, but the forward swung wildly at the ball and missed altogether as the opportunity was wasted. And other chances came and went in the 58th minute as Paul Gallagher's corner broke the way of Greg Cunningham but his strike from six yards was blocked by Karl Henry before Reach couldn't connect with a left-footed shot as the ball was delivered back into the area. Two minutes later there was a rare chance for QPR
Polter held the ball up well on the by-line and delivered a tantalising ball across the goal but there was nobody there to tap into an empty net.And Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink's side came close again after 64 minutes as another Faurlin corner picked out Gabriele Angella but the centre-half headed wide under pressure.Set-pieces were proving to be the major threat for both teams and Preston should have equalised from a Gallagher corner after 70 minutes, but Hugill headed well over from six yards out.QPR's top scorer Tjaronn Chery had two great opportunities to wrap the game up in the 83rd minute, first curling a 30-yard free kick just wide before going clean through on goal only to be denied by Anders Lindegaard in a one-on-one.In the second minute of injury time, Doyle snatched a point for Preston when he flicked home a near-post header from eight yards after a superb cross from Cunningham. And the forward had the chance to win it for Preston just a minute later as he rose highest in the area again, but nodded straight at Alex Smithies
