Turner on target as North End win again
Preston goalkeeper Iain Turner scored a freak goal from inside his own box to help Phil Brown's side claim their third successive League One win with a 2-0 victory against Notts County.
The games was heading for a goalless draw until Brian McLean rose highest from an 83rd-minute corner to power a header into the top-right corner of the goal.
And Preston wrapped up the points in the most peculiar fashion when Turner unleashed a huge kick which bounced over Stuart Nelson - under pressure from Neil Mellor - and into the net on 86 minutes.
The home side had a strong penalty claim turned down on 15 minutes when Mellor was blocked by Krystian Pearce after a defensive mix-up.
Hamza Bencherif made a strong forward run on 23 minutes but was stopped by a combination of Turner and Clarke Carlisle before Notts County keeper Nelson made a fine stop from Jamie Proctor's sweetly struck left-footed half-volley on 61 minutes.
Preston broke the deadlock when McLean rose highest to meet Paul Parry's corner and plant his head in the top-right corner on 83 minutes before Turner's unlikely strike.
