Preston changed things with Chaplow replacing Carter in midfield and the second new boy Chris Brown playing up fornt alongside Hawley.
Watford were unable to break down the Preston defence although they pressed hard in the first half. Preston's best opportunity in the first period fell to Lewis Neal who forced the Watford keeper into a smart save.
The game had no real clear cut chances but some last ditch tackles from the Preston defence kept Watford out. Preston made changes with Mellor and Carter replacing the new boys. Within seconds a scramble enused in the Watford box which saw Neil Mellor stab home for his third goal of the season.
Preston managed to hold on for a vital home win which moves them up the table and is important for the confidence over the next few weeks.
