Preston ahd the better of the ball but did not create enough and they missed Chris Brown who had to be pulled out due to a hamstring problem. Mellor and Hawley created problems but not enough to worry the Barnsley keeper.
Barnsley scored from a superb free kick before half time afte cretaing nothing in open play. The decisive moment came in the second half when Campbell rice went over in the box. The ball had clearly been won by the Preston defence. There was no appeal, not even from the fans but the referee amazingly pointed to the spot. Macken tucked away the kick.
Preston came back into when a Billy Jones cross was diverted in by the Barnsley defenc but once again for all the possession Preston could not convert their superiority against a poor Barnsley side.
